weekend away

Playa Blanca-- two hours away and into another world!


We just got home from a weekend away. Only about 2 1/2 hours away. But far enough. Far enough to be away from ringing telephones and traffic lights and noisy traffic and pollution and crazy, hectic city life. Far enough away that the only sounds we heard were the crashing of the waves on the shore, the birds singing in the trees and the kids giggling. :o) It was restful, peaceful, beautiful, and just plain fun. We went with our friends and co-workers the Twitchells to celebrate their oldest daughter, Kenna's, birthday. And both families thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

Wyatt got to snorkel for the first time. It was the sweetest sight (and sound). Darrin would take him out to a little group of rocks. Darrin could stand up and he would hold Wyatt's hand and Wyatt would float around on his belly using his snorkel to see all the fish that lived in and around the rock grouping. But the best part for me was listening. Wyatt was overcome with joy and delight at this new little world he was seeing under the water. And as he swam you could hear coming out his snorkel the garbled underwater sounds of laughter. He was giggling! And his underwater giggles came out through his little mouthpiece. Just when you thought you couldn't love him anymore . . . it melts a momma's heart to hear her little ones so happy!! :o)

And my older two were so excited today. A kind lifeguard saw us snorkeling by the rocks and encouraged us to try a different spot as he's seen sea turtles feeding. So the boys went and sure enough. Big huge sea turtles swimming around eating the sea grass. Amazing to see. Amazing opportunity!

Chloe was happy just finding seashells and laughing and playing with her friend Eliza T. all day. Of course no one was happy to leave. I could stay here all week Chloe said. Me too, Chloe. Me too! :o)
